Problem 2 The façade of a structure is subjected to a 1.4 kPa factored wind load on the windward and leeward sides of the structure. The structure is two storeys (4 m each) with a 1 m parapet. a) Assuming the wind load is uniformly distributed over the entire façade area, determine the load applied to the diaphragm at each level of the structure (e.g., floor and roof in kN/m). State all your assumptions and draw a sketch of how the loads have been applied. (6 marks) b) Due to the end zone areas, a higher wind pressure is expected at the corners of the structure. Sketch the load distribution on the windward and leeward sides expected on the diaphragm accounting for the end zone areas. The wind is acting upwards on the plan view.
