Exercise 6 A group of adults were asked how many minutes they listen to music in a day. The following is a random sample of 13 adults' responses: 60 115 45 70 90 80 15 45 70 90 300 75 100 a. 15 and 300 both look like they could be outliers. Prove (using the formula for outliers) whether these values are outliers or not. b. Sketch a modified boxplot for these data. (A modified boxplot is ALWAYS what AP will ask for on the AP Exam. It is a boxplot that denotes the outliers) c. The middle 50% of this data lie between what two values? Exercise 7 A statistic is said to be resistant if it is NOT affected by outliers. What measures of center are resistant? (Measures of center are Mean, Median and Mode...although mode is rarely used in AP Stats) Exercise 8 A statistic is said to be resistant if it is NOT affected by outliers. What measures of spread are resistant? (Measures of spread are range, IQR, variance and standard deviation)
