Question 1 [15 Marks] 1.1 A sample of helium gas has a volume of 5.60 L at standard temperature and pressure (stp). Calculate the volume (in L) of the gas at -25 °C and 238 torr. (3) 1.2 For Cl₂ gas, the van der Waals coefficients are a = 6.26 L² atm mol-2 and b=0.0542 L mol-1. Consider 1.00 mol of Cl₂ gas confined to 2.00 L at a pressure of 10.0 atm. (a) Calculate the temperature (in K) assuming ideal behaviour. (3) (b) Calculate the temperature (in K) assuming that the behaviour of the Cf, gas can closely be described by the van der Waals equation. (3) (c) Calculate the compression factor, Z, assuming that Cl₂ gas is a van der Waals gas, i.e. at the temperature obtained under Question 1. part 1.2(b) above, (3) (3) 1.3 Calculate the root-mean-square speed of HCP gas molecule at 21 °C.
