The following two questions refer to this problem: A 1 kg steel ball is dropped on a hard surface. The speed of the ball the instant before it hits the ground is 6 m/s, and the speed just after it bounces is 1 m/s. If the ball is in contact with the ground for 50 ms, what is the average net force exerted on the ball during the bounce (i.e., while the ball is in contact with the ground)? Hint: Remember that impulse is defined as: J = AP = mAv = FAt where F is the average net force exerted on the object that experiences the impulse J.
QUESTION 2 For the previous problem, what is the average force exerted by the ground on the ball during the bounce?
