EELE 250 - Lecture 20 Homework Review the notes and homework 19 to prepare for this problem. 1. Design an amplifier to scale the output of a strain sensor to be read by a DAQ. The sensor (red) was wrapped around a pressurized tube (blue). As the pressure in the tube increases, the outward force on the inner wall of the tube will cause "hoop strain" in units of u-strain (uz) The sensor was adhered to the tube using a thermo-resistive epoxy (black). As the epoxy settled onto the curvature tube and dried, it pulled on the strain sensor stretching. This effect causes the strain sensor to read 1000 μe even when the tube is NOT under pressure. Part A: The sensor has a response to strain of: 1mV/1 ue. Design a level shifting circuit to remove the effect of 1000 ue. Define the 4 necessary resistors and the necessary DC offset voltage. Part B: The range of strain expected in this study is from 0 ue to 500 μe. The DAQ is a 5V system (meaning you can read signals up to 5V). Design a non-inverting amplifier to utilize the full range of the DAQ. Part C: Complete the design by drawing the complete circuit. The strain sensor's positive terminal should be connected to the input of the level-shifting circuit. The output of the level-shifting circuit should be connected to the input of the non-inverting amplifier. The output of the non-inverting amplifier should be connected to the input of the DAQ.
