04A: Electrical Installation Design
Specification:
Unit 10 forms part of an Industrial Estate in a Business Park in Old Town. It is to have electrical work carried out to accommodate a car servicing and repair garage. You are to carry out the design and installation of this work which covers:
Office:
 1 x 58 W Surface modular luminaire + switch,
 2 Double S/S/O in dado trunking,
 2 Telephone / ICT outlets.
WC:
 1 x 28 W 2D Luminaire + switch.
Store:
 1 x 36 W fluorescent luminaire
Service area:
 7 x fluorescent luminaires with polycarbonate diffuser suspended by chains at a
height of 4.8 m from ffl.
 3 ph supply to a two post vehicle lift: 400 V 3 kW with a p.f of 0.85,
 1 ph supply to a second hand air compressor: 2.5 horse power motor with a p.f of
0.78, and an efficiency of 75%. External:
 1 x Twin (2 x 42 W) Twin LED Flood Light with PIR.
ElectricalThe building was last re-wired in 1998; which included sockets wired in PVC singles in steel conduit in the main workshop/servicing area (not shown on drawing). The supply to the unit is 3 ph 4-wire, 400 V (50 Hz), TN-C-S. All new circuits will be accommodated into the existing metal clad 3 ph distribution board housing circuit breakers (BS EN 60898) and RCBOs. Ambient temperature is taken to be 20 ̊C unless otherwise stated.

04A: Electrical Installation Design - Section 11. State 5 sources of information which would help you design this installation.2. Specify an appropriate wiring system to be used for the luminaires in the main workshop, giving three reasons for your choice.3. With your chosen wiring system, indicate on the plan how you would supply the main workshop luminaires.4. Indicate with a sketch how the luminaires would be suspended from the ceiling structure.5. The existing ring final circuit is to be extended to accommodate the provision of a twin socket outlet by the shutter door (Br 2) to allow the connection of hand held equipment on the forecourt.a) Outline the earth fault protection requirement for this circuit.b) Outline the requirements from BS 7671 for the height and provision of socket outlets.6. Calculate the design current of the radial circuit supplying the air compressor (Br4).7. The 3 phase circuit for the car lift (Br, Bl, Gy 3) will be wired in PVC singles in trunking fixed to the workshop wall, which will also contain 3 other circuits. The circuit length is8m;a) Using BS 7671, design the circuit to supply this equipment. Note all tables you reference, and the reference method of installation.b) If the circuit CPC is also a single core cable, select an appropriate minimum sized CPC, and confirm your selection by calculation. Note all tables you reference.Contin
