I JUST NEED INTRODUCTION FOR THIS LEACHINGEXPERIMENT
ASSIGNMENT 2 CHE544 | LEACHING | 3 WEEKS INTRODUCTION Malaysia herbal industry has been blooming since our forest is abundant with plants that have been identified with medicinal values. Moreover, the demand on herbal supplements, herbs- based skincare and herb-based energy drinks keeps increasing making the process of recovering the beneficial compound is developing². One way of obtaining the extracts is via separation process. Leaching or solid-liquid extraction was the most popular separation techniques. It uses solvent to extract out the solute from the solid. Outcome: P02 CO3 Weightage: 20% Submission date: 8 July 2022 (11.59pm) FUNDAMENTAL THEORY There are many factors affecting the leaching process namely solvent selection, extraction temperature, sample: solvent ratio, sample particle size, time of extraction etc. TASK In this assignment, you are required to choose one easily accessible traditional herb and demonstrate a simple and safe experiment on leaching process using water as the solvent. You are advised to use any available materials and instrument around you. The demonstration should be reported in a form of infographic manner in a manuscript. PROBLEM STATEMENT These are the questions that need to answer before, during and after the experiment: 1. What is the herb that you choose as the material for this leaching process? Describe the scientific research of the herb chosen (previous study about this herb). 2. Choose two variables that is going to be used in your experiment. After the experiment is completed, decide on the best operating conditions for the highest yield. 3. How do you determine the extraction yield? Provide the equation used to determine the yield. 4. Justify the highest yield obtain, based on your leaching knowledge.
MANUSCRIPT CONTENT The manuscript should consist of (but not limited to): 1. Photo of the sample (before and after sample preparation). 2. The labelled diagram of the experimental set-up. 3. Photo of the extract at each operating condition. 4. Relevant calculations (yield %) 5. Answers to the problem statement 6. Recommendations on improving the experiment 7. Conclusion An example of manuscript is also uploaded for your reference. However, the structure/subtopics depend on the manuscript content mentioned above. You may want to organise the structure like this: Introduction Methods/Procedure Findings/Calculations Discussion Conclusion Recommendations
