Assume the beam in Figure 1 has cracked and that the distancefrom each face of the beam to the center of the reinforcing steelis 2-1/2 inches. Use f'c = 4,000 psi and fy = 60,000 psi.
a) Determine the maximum ACI bar spacing if the steelstress is equal to 2/3 of the steel yield stress.
b) Is adequate bar spacing provided? If not, howwould you correct this problem?
