A vehicle is fitted with drum brakes at the rear. Fig Q12 shows the relevant dimensions of one of the rear brake drums, each of which has one leading shoe and one trailing shoe. One end of each brake shoe is actuated at A and B by a double acting piston of diameter 29 mm, and the other end of each shoe is pivoted at points C and D. The effective radius of the friction force is 90 mm, and the coefficient of friction between the brake shoes and the drum is 0.5. When the brake pedal is pressed, a hydraulic pressure of 1261 kN/m2 is applied to each of the actuating pistons. Determine the brake torque on one of the rear wheels in Nm. Give your answer to 2 dp.
