Problem 2: Ray tracing for convex mirrors A 5 cm high object is located 30 cm from a convex mirror with a focal length of –20 cm. The image below is to scale (but is not necessarily at a scale of 1:1). This means that you will need to calculate the image-scale for the image below. For example, if the stated height of the object were 2cm, but it is measured in a diagram to be lcm tall, then the image-scale is 2:1. To convert from a diagram distance to a real-world distance we thus multiply by 2. Use this method to determine the image-scale in this problem and subsequent problems. F A. Use a ruler to measure the object distance. Divide the object distance given in the prompt by your measured value. This is your image-scale. B. Draw a ray diagram to find the image, including the height and orientation of the image; you only need to draw 2 of the special rays, but you can draw more if you'd like. Use a straightedge and be as accurate as possible.
