Psychopharmochology has demonstrated that balance within thenervous system is maintained by opposing forces (Glutamate vs.GABA, + vs. - electrostatic charges, IPSP vs. EPSP etc...). One viewpoint is that these opposing forces make the nervoussystem resilient because each change in a force is matched by anopposing force. It has also been argued that the oppositionaldesign makes the operation of the nervous system delicate becauseslight changes can tip the balance between the opposing forces.
