As an editor of the journal I would not want to sue the writerfor fraud. If there are steps that I can take before suing I willfollow a chain of commands. I would insist that the writeracknowledge and accept the fact that it is in fact plagiarism, evenif it is their own writings. If possible I would ask the writer tounpublished the story in the other outlet if this is an option.That the writer takes responsibility by admitting their faults inthe situation to both publishing parties. I do think that thissituation would impact the writer's career. They may now have areputation of fraudulent works, and may not be able to publish anyother writings. Not being able to publish other writings in thefuture is more detrimental than suing in my opinion. This pertainsto self plagiarism because the writer did not site their own work.They did not give recognition that it was a previous writing, sothis in turn is an act of self plagiarism.
Question to my peers: Do you believe that if the writer wouldhave sited their own work, or would have acknowledge that it was aprevious writing that the outcome may have been different.
