Leadership is a developmental process that grows with trainingand experience. Previously, leadership was assumed to be a fixedtrait that leaders either “had” or “did not have.” A bornleader was thereby unqualified to lead, and those who were not bornleaders would never become so. Modern research appliesevidence-based practices to behaviors that support effectiveleadership and suggests that leadership skills can be learned overtime, and that nobody is a ‘born leader.’
This discussion provides an opportunity for the student toconsider how leadership theory has developed from behavioralscience (i.e. psychology), also affirming specific behaviors thatsupport the leadership process.
