Find the tensile resistance capacities Tr of a C180 x 70 hot rolled steel channel shown in figure 1 below. Consider the channel to be connected on to a thick gusset plate in two alternative ways explained below. a) Bolted with five M16 black bolts through drilled clearance holes. Analyse only two of the most likely failure paths across the member (i.e. not shear block) through the bolt holes which you consider as critical. b) Welded with two longitudinal 6 mm fillet welds.
