Question 1 Design an isolated footing to support an interior column 35 cm x 35 cm in cross section and carries a dead load of 1000 kN and live load of 700 KN. The characteristic materials strengths are fy = 460 N/mm2 and fcu = 30 N/mm2. Calculate the area of reinforcement required. The soil ultimate bearing capacity is 200 kN/ m2 and the depth of the bottom of the foundation from the ground surface is 2 m. The soil unit weight is 18 kN/m3.
