- 3) Color Theory – 20 points In class we learnt about additive and subtractive color mixing. Answer the following. No points if only answer given without correct reasoning! You have a cyan colored dot (looks cyan in white light) on a paper. If you shine a red torch light on this dot, what would the dot’s color appear to be? (2 points) If in addition to the red torch light you also shined another yellow torch, what would the dot's color appear to be? (2 points) If you had a choice of a combination of any two colored torches to shine on the cyan dot, what choices of torches do you have to make it appear yellow? (5 points) Suppose we are taking a picture of an object with a 3-CCD camera with color matching filters (CMF) given by matrix M. The values recorded by the camera are used as input to a color projector with primaries matrix P. What is the condition that M and P must satisfy in order to ensure that the colors of the reproduced light look identical to the original colors of the object? (3 points) Suppose there are two couples of CMF and associated primaries (M1,P1) and (M2,P2) that satisfy the condition above. Assume that we take a picture with a camera using the CMF Mı, and reproduce it with a projector with primaries P2. What operation do we need to perform on the color vectors acquired by the camera in order to ensure that the colors are reproduced faithfully? (8 points)
