questions 1-3: The atmospheres of all of the Jovian planets are divided into horizontal "bands" circling the planet. In the official terminology, the lighter colored bands are called "zones" while the darker areas are called "belts". 1. Explain in a couple of sentences the standard view of how convection causes the atmosphere of Jupiter to separate into bands that circle the planet. (You only need to explain why the atmosphere is separated into bands) 2. Describe the the appearance and behavior of the spots on Jupiter. Explain what we think causes them. 3. In a couple of sentences, explain why the belts and zones on the Jovian planets are different colors.
