The results of a study by the Environmental Fund ManagementAgency and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in 2021stated that Indonesia is the largest producer of electronic wastein Southeast Asia with a volume of 1.6 million tons of waste peryear. The volume of e-waste is expected to continue to increase andmore than 90% is collected informally and is not environmentallyfriendly. This will seriously endanger the environment and publichealth because the waste contains hazardous and toxicmaterials.
To reduce this negative impact, the study recommends (i)imposing tax or retribution for the purchase of any electronicgoods and (ii) providing subsidies to industries and businessesthat manage electronic waste in an environmentally friendlymanner.
a. Using a diagram, explain the impact of the imposition of taxfor each purchase of electronic goods at the market equilibriumprice and quantity (not individual companies) of electronicproducts.
b. Using a diagram, explain the impact at the market level ofproviding subsidies to industries and business actors who manageelectronic waste in an environmentally friendly manner at themarket equilibrium price and quantity of electronic wasteprocessed.
c. If implemented, explain the impact of the policy onenvironmental quality and public health using answers (a) and (b)as the basis.
