PROCEDURE 1. Line up 12 - 13, 8 oz plastic cups. Divide the contents of one 500 mL container of bottled water. 2. For any liquids add approximately 3 to 5 mL portions of the liquid to the water in the plastic cup above. 3. For solids add about 3 to 5 grams (1 teaspoon, a pinch) of the solid to the water in the plastic cup above. 4. Dunk one end of a different piece of Red Litmus Paper into each of the 12 test samples. Record any color changes of Red to Blue. Record any absences of color changes. 5. Dunk one end of a different piece of Blue Litmus Paper into each of the 12 test samples. Record any color changes of Blue to Red. Record any absences of color changes HANDLING AND DISPOSAL 1. HANDLE THE DRAIN CLEANER WITH CARE ACCORDING TO CONTAINER 2. DO NOT MIX THESE chemical solutions together at the end of the experiment. MANY REACT HARSHLY WHEN COMBINED. Pour each down the kitchen drain slowly and individually while running copious amounts of water. Especially do not mix bleach an ammonia. 127
