In this module, you have learned quite a bit about the socialand societal supports (as well as the pressures) that affect ouridentities. In the lecture, you also learned about social phenomenathat can cause cognitive dissonance or threats to our identities. In your initial post to the discussion, answer the followingquestions: Think back to a time when you had to work in a group orwere in some way part of a larger group that was controlled bysomeone else (a teacher, a parent, a counselor, etc.).
During that time, did you experience the phenomenon ofill-advised obedience, social loafing, or groupthink? Or have youever witnessed those social phenomena in others? Share thestory.
Think about the person who was at the heart of the story youtold above (whether it was you or someone else). Do you thinkcognitive dissonance played a role in that person’s participationin the social phenomenon you identified? In their attitude aboutit? Why or why not?
Clearly some negative aspects are seen in the psychologicalphenomena of obedience, social loafing, and groupthink. But arethere any positives associated with these phenomena as well?Explain.
