Hello, it's not my homework or anything related to school. I'm trying to learn biology by myself and struggling with cell division section. Could you, please, check my answers to these 3 question and correct them if needed.
1. Draw a simple diagram of a cell which contains only one pair of chromosomes (2 chromosomes) at the beginning:
a) at metaphase of mitosis
b) at anaphase of mitosis
My answer is attached in 2 pictures below
2. State 2 functions of centromeres during nuclear division
My answer: 1. acts as site for microtubles to attach and pull to the poles the chromatids in mitosis, 2. separating the chromatids during mitosis
3. Thin section of adult mouse liver were prepared and the cells stained to show up the chromosomes. In a sample of 75 000 cells examined, 9 were found to be in process of mitosis. Calculate the length of the cell cycle in days in liver cells, assuming that mitosis lasts 1 hour
My answer: if 9 cells out of 75 000 cells are in mitosis, then the frequency is 9/75000=0.00012
the legth of the cell cycle in hours is: 1/0.00012=8333 hours = 347 days
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. I OL Centromere Centrosome Chromosome containing 2 chromatids Another chromosome containing 2 chromatids Spindle made of protein Microtubules 2 -3 -4 4-5 ты
1b 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Centromere Centrosome Chromatids from yellow chromosome (previous chromosome was splitter with centromere to chromatids and they are pulled apart) Chromatids from green chromosome Spindle 0 19 0 -1 2 3 LI - - 5 ก
