A gardener entered into a contract with a landownerunder which, for a monthly fee of $200, the gardener would providethe landowner with monthly gardening services for the calendaryear. On June 1, the gardener told the landowner that she could nolonger afford to work for $200 a month and demanded that she bepaid $400 a month. The landowner refused, stating that he alreadyhad a valid contract with her and that he did not have to pay anymore. The gardener again insisted that she would not work for lessthan $400. As a result, the gardener and landowner, after muchnegotiation, agreed in writing on July 1 that the gardener wouldthereafter be paid $400 a month for the gardening services and thatthe term of the agreement would be extended through the end of thefollowing year.
