questions such as: What did I learn from this lesson? How did I learn? What are my feelings? Which aspects need clarification? What difficulties did I encounter? How do I feel when I study a certain subject? How do I like to learn the next topic in the future (chapter, lesson); Did I enjoy the (learning) experience? If not, why not?
Advantages of applying this method: A reflective report is a reflective, open and flexible way of evaluating; The student can express his own dissatisfaction, but also expectations, expressing desires and satisfactions; The teacher can know (with the will of the student) other aspects that influence the learning process and thus helps the student to increase the quality of instruction; Knowing these aspects, there is a greater closeness between teacher and student, the latter feeling it is understood and aware that the circumstances are taken into account (Sharif & Zainuddin, 2017). Therefore, in this paper, I will evaluate my learning by doing a reflection of semester one and how I used my learning to improve in semester 2. Also, I will do a review of semester two and evaluate the factors which have contributed to my learning outcomes. Next, I will mention how I am going to use my learning in the next year.
Reflection of semester one Participating in classes and learning about Academic skills lessons allowed me to continue to grow as a student. This semester I gained a better understanding of the citation format, the value of critical thinking, and the value of peer evaluations in academic writing. To make citing and references easier, the lecturer provided us with connections to helpful websites. The teacher also shared different referencing styles and the difference between them. As a result of this lesson, I am confident in my ability to write my referencing and use citation in any future essays that need it. Additionally, I discovered the significance of critical thinking during this semester. Criticising a source and writing a well-researched argumentative essay requires critical thinking skills. It improves my ability to communicate my views, trains my mind to think logically by studying various texts, and provides an invaluable opportunity for introspection. Having to write a business plan was one of the tasks that really helped me improve my critical thinking skills this semester. The business plan and the analysis of it had to be dissected in groups. To fully comprehend the SWOT and PEST analysis, I had to go beyond what was presented in class. It opened my eyes to the fact that the more critical thought I engage in, the more meaningful my work will become. Another valuable lesson I gained from this seminar was the importance of peer feedback. What helped me notice this was when we had to make a short presentation about a business area and how it has an impact on the operations management and overall business management of an organisation. Because we had to work in a team and do research together, it was not only beneficial to compare my research draft to other people's but also to get input from my peers. Because of the peer evaluation, I was able to improve my part of the presentation accordingly. As a consequence of peer critiques, I was able to modify my part before submission, which resulted in an improved score. In addition to the benefits of peer critiques, they encourage me to start working on your draft early rather than waiting until the last minute to submit it.
Many essential lessons were learned this semester, and I believe they will serve me well in the future as a student. I would take the same classes over again if given the option. Class discussions, critical reflections, and peer reviews were all enjoyable experiences for me. My goal for the future is to continue developing my critical thinking and writing abilities.
Reflection of semester two Writing my essays and studying in semester two was a bit easier for me because I already got used to the classes, classmates, teachers and assignments style. Also, I used my learning from semester one to improve my learning. For example, as I already learned about referencing and citation, it was easier for me to write this in my essays. I know where to look for information and how to evaluate a source of information. My studies from semester two enhanced my academic skills. During this semester of my university programme, I encounter more stressful situations because of the assignments and presentations. For this semester, I have to submit four different assignments in the same period of time, including a group presentation and an individual poster presentation. Using what I had learned from last semester, I made a point of preparing for each task and subject for the same amount of time. However, I realised the time I allowed for each subject was not enough for me, and I started panicking. Although I was confident and eager to complete preparing for my assignments and presentations, I realised how tough it was for me to study. Due to the lack of time for revision, I panicked when I learned how complex the module's subject matter was for me to grasp. I believe that my past experience working under pressure and meeting deadlines helped me to stay focused and pay more attention to the subject I was studying as I knew that I had a limited amount of time to complete my task. While this was a good thing in hindsight, one of my most considerable doubts is that I am unsure how much time I should allow for each assignment as they are all different. For example, I realised I have to allow myself more time when doing a poster because I need to research and learn how to insert images and other visual elements. On top of these, I also need to rehearse my presentation and prepare notes. Because of this, I am aware that I need to work on my self- management. Even though I initially felt powerless in light of the scenario, my past academic experiences allowed me to gather my wits and become more effective in order to achieve my goals. It was because I failed to correctly determine which topic was more challenging for me than the others that I was unable to successfully take charge of my study, which led to panic. Because I do not know how long it will take me to complete a certain activity, I frequently find myself running late for my responsibilities at home and doing them at a sluggish pace, resulting in frustrations. Despite the fact that I scheduled the same amount of time for all my test topics, I did not take into account the complexity of the work, which necessitated more
time for review, and this had a negative impact on concentration. Next time, I will begin by assessing the level of difficulty and then schedule the appropriate amount of time for studying and absorbing the material. The second incident occurred while working in a session with a group of colleagues. For semester 2, we had to make a group presentation about the benefits and challenges a university student might face. While doing the research, all team members shared the tasks and decided to research individually and then present the study to each other and determine what information we would use. My role was underutilised because I lacked confidence in my ability to fill it, and as a result, our decision-making process was slowed. In the beginning, I was pleased with my part since I like looking for and proposing alternative solutions to problems. However, I was unable effectively to carry out my responsibilities because I was unsure of myself and too afraid to question our decision-making process. In retrospect, I believe we were successful in completing our goal because we each accomplished our allocated responsibilities and worked together as a cohesive unit. As a result of my lack of confidence in my ideas, we waited a little longer to make a final choice than we usually would have. An explanation for this could be found in the concept of 'groupthink' (Janis, 1971), which holds that individuals are hesitant to question the decisions of a group for fear of being labelled as an outsider. Instead of appealing our judgment, the team was harmed since another member of the team had to assume my responsibilities, which resulted in a loss of productivity and uncertainty. I am aware that my self-assurance and communication abilities may need to be sharpened when it comes to teamwork. It also has an impact on my personal life since I volunteer, and shyness prevents me from expressing my thoughts in a group. This makes it difficult for me to communicate effectively with people. I have learnt from this experience that I need to be more assertive in my tasks and responsibilities, and I also need to challenge my team's judgments and reasons. I believe we might have managed this better if I had shared my thoughts and decision making. In order to better my responsibilities, I plan to overcome my fear of speaking out and investigate all available problem-solving solutions. I am reminding myself that our ultimate objective is to be successful as a team is an excellent way to remind me on to more remarkable my aptitude.
This essay has discussed the importance of reflection on the previous incidents in the educational context. Also, the review of semester two and what I have learned from semester one was discussed. How to use citation and referencing was among the things I have learned and introduced in my assignment writing. Also, working in a group made me realise the advantages of peer feedback. Furthermore, analysing my studies in semester 2, I acknowledge the issues I encounter during my studies and activities in class. Setting aside more time for my assignments was a reason I have made because of my past experience. I learned that I need to analyse every term individually, decide which tasks need more attention and time, and organise my studies accordingly. Also, when it comes to working for a group, I learned that sharing my ideas and questioning my group decision is an essential aspect of my developing academic skills, and I should communicate my thoughts. As such, I will use all these realisations to better my studies and assignments for the upcoming years and projects.
Introduction One technique of evaluation is the reflective record, which allows students to record their reflections on the many stages of learning that they have gone through. Comprehension abilities may be honed using this evaluation technique, which involves students reflecting on their own learning process and using the representations they produce during the run. It can concentrate on the following: the conceptual progress made, the process of mental development, and the observed and felt emotions and viewpoints. The student's perspective on these factors can help them study more in the future (Sharif & Zainuddin, 2017). In the reflective report, experiences, feelings, opinions, critically shared thoughts, knowledge and skills are regularly reviewed. The student is encouraged to answer Advantages of applying this method: A reflective report is a reflective, open and flexible way of evaluating; The student can express his own dissatisfaction, but also expectations, expressing desires and satisfactions; The teacher can know (with the will of the student) other aspects that influence the learning process and thus helps the student to increase the quality of instruction; Knowing these aspects, there is a greater closeness between teacher and student, the latter feeling it is understood and aware that the circumstances are taken into account (Sharif & Zainuddin, 2017).
