Project Scenario:
Assume that you are building a website with a database back-endfor a bookshop which specialises in antique and rare books. Thebookshop does not have any web presence at the moment and thelong-time staff and owners have minimal experience of the use ofcomputers and the Internet. You are the Project Leader for thisproject and you need to develop sections of a Project Plan asoutlined below. (The website itself will not be a deliverable ofthis project and will not be assessed as part of the AppliedSoftware Project Management Module). The documentation which willbe submitted will be developed on a portfolio basis building onwhat has been covered in the labs and lectures week by week.
The Project Documents should include thefollowing:
Feasibility Study: (20%) A feasibilitystudy before embarking on the project. You will need to outline howa feasibility study could be carried out and will also need toprovide a sample Return on Investment (ROI) Calculation and asample Net Present Value (NPV) or Internal Rate of Return (IRR) aspart of the study. You should explain what these valuesrepresent and what they are used for. You will also need tomake some assumptions on how the project could make profits andvalue those profits, for example by saving headcount costs orthrough increased sales revenues.
Project Plan Sections : (80%) Using yourwebsite as the context for the plan, you are asked to submitsections of a project plan which will detail the following:
NB. You must apply course concepts to the casestudy and carefully consider the impacts of the target users andowners of the website, as described above.
