A 65mm internal diameter pipe is required to be used to increase the temperature of an oil by means of steam. The oil flows inside the pipe and enters at a temperature of 40 °C. On the outside of the pipe, steam condenses, which maintains the pipe wall at a constant temperature of 100 °C. The flow velocity of the oil is 1 m/s.
If the oil needs to be heated up to 60 °C and the convective coefficient on the water side is 15.9 W/mK:
- What length of pipe is required?
