Exercise 1 (20 marks) (LO: a, b, c, e & f) Sketch the measurement configuration for x-ray computed tomography (CT) in the parallel beam geometry, with a linear detector. Briefly describe the main points of the technique. (8 marks) (a) (b) Use back projection to reconstruct a 3 x 3 image using a horizontal view, a vertical view and both diagonal views of the matrix: 100 197 0 119 270 0 150 248 200 (8 marks) (c) Explain the limitations of reconstruction by back projection and how improvements can be implemented. (4 marks)
