A friend of yours owns a restaurant. There are a few people work at the kitchen. A swinging door separates the dining area from the kitchen area and dishwashing area. Many waiters and staff carrying meals to be served to costumers or carrying dirty or clear dishes go through this door. Almost every night there has been one or two accidents when two people pushing the door simultaneously, crash and many dishes broke. Devise some simple, efficient and not expensive mechanism that should solve the problem by ensuring only one person can go through the door. The aim is to save all plates, cups and glasses from getting broken. (see picture attached). The following solutions did not work: staff talk to one another (they do not speak same language). Moving dishwasher to kitchen are is not possible. Replacing door with a transparent door is too expensive. Cannot have a second door, in order to provide two one- way doors are used.. Closing down the business is not an option. Name and explain one method in which synchronisation can be achieved between two cooperating processes. Describe the operation of Semaphores. Explain clearly two suggested solutions to the Dining Philosophers problem.
