You are a researcher working in a lab that studies an animal model of anxiety disorders. Your lab uses the fear-conditioning paradigm. You begin training your rats. After pairing the shock and tone repeatedly, you play just the tone. When the rats hear the tone, they display increased freezing behavior. What does this mean? The rats have decreased attention and cannot be conditioned. The rats must have damage to the amygdala. Rats learned the tone should be feared due to anticipation of shock. Rats haven't learned. They aren't shocked and shouldn't freeze.
