Two (green) objects, each of mass m, are separated by a solid, massless rod of length L. They are located so that one of the objects is located at a distance of r away from the center of a uniform spherical planet with mass M (see figure). M m L m (20 points) (a) Show and explain, by drawing a force diagram on both (green) ob- jects, that it is possible for the rod to be compressed, stretched, or neither. (b) Derive an expression for the mass ratio M/m for the case where the rod is neither stretched nor compressed (your answer should not include m nor M).
