Acme Parts Ltd (APL) is a small manufacturing company thatproduces various parts for tool manufacturers. One of APL’sproduction processes involves producing a metal spacer plate thathas a tolerance of 0.05 to 0.10 cm in thickness. On therecommendation of the quality assurance (QA) department and overobjections of the plant manager, APL had just purchased some newequipment to make these parts. Recently, the production manager wasreceiving complaints from the customers about high levels ofnonconforming parts. There are a few numbers of customer return theproduct to APL. The production manager suspected that the problemsmight occur from the new equipment.
