RUBRIC Name VET 220 pts Date Case Studies #2 Infectious Diseases 25 Case A. NoNose is an intact male community cat between 3 and 5 years of age. For the past year he was noted to have a slowly progressive facial lesion and audible respiratory noise. The lesion would alternate between a crusted lesion and an openly bleeding wound. NoNose was trapped and taken to a local clinic for evaluation. PEX on exam NoNose was found to have severe respiratory stertor. He also had a large lesion extending from between his eyes down to the margin of his upper lip. The remainder of the exam was normal 1. Given the history of this cat, what are some differential diseases of concern? WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS? GO THROUGH DAMNIT SCHEME. PROVIDE MORE THAN ONE POSSIBILITY. BE SPECIFIC. NoNose was anesthetized for evaluation. Upon cleaning the lesion, it was determined that bone and/or cartilage had was exposed and the hard palate appeared affected. 2. What would be a good way to sample a lesion such as this for cytology? REFER BACK TO SAMPLING OF LESIONS IN CLINICAL LAB PROCEDURES 3. Slides were stained and appear as in the picture below. These are not white blood cells. What are these organisms / what is the diagnosis? USE YOUR RESOURCES: THIS IS A VERY SPECIFIC APPEARANCE 4. What other organ systems can be affected by this organism? CLUDE EXAMPLES OF TREATMENT, DURATION, PROGNOSIS
