For this project, you will use the data set "College Data Fall 2020" which is an Excel data file that you can find on our D2L page. The data set contains data gathered from N=197 colleges and universities. Several variables were measured and are described as follows: I State: the state/district in which the school is located. Coded as: 1= Delaware; 2= District of Columbia; 3= Maryland; 4 = Pennsylvania; 5 = Virginia; 6 = West Virginia Location: the school is located in a City (1), Town (2), Suburb (3), or is Rural (4) Private/Public: the school is Private (1) or Public (2) Admissions Rate SAT Reading (75%): the SAT Reading score that falls at the 75 percentile SAT Math (75%) : the SAT Math score that falls at the 75 percentile Tuition & Fees Average Financial Aid Enrollment: this is the total enrollment (undergraduate + graduate) Undergraduate enrollment: this is just the number of undergraduate students enrolled Student-Teacher Ratio Graduation Rate (5-year) 15 16 In the Excel workbook, you will see multiple worksheets (the tabs at the bottom of your screen). Tab 1: "MASTER DATA FILE" The master spreadsheet containing all of the data. Tab 2: "Public vs. Private"-I isolated the Admissions Rates and Graduation Rates for Public versus Private schools for you; these are ready for your analyses in question #2. Tab 3: "Tuition by Location"-1 isolated tuition & fees by location (City, Town, Suburb, or Rural) for you; these are ready for your analyses in question #4. -

Use Excel to answer the following questions. Please be sure that all work that you turn in for a grade is your own. This assignment is worth a total of 100 points. You need to type/write your answer to each of the following questions AND provide all of your work in Excel to back up your answers. (For questions that require a graph, you don't need to draw out the graph-your Excel by itself is sufficient). If you would like to copy and paste from Excel into this document, you may, or you may upload your Excel workbook into D2L separately from this document. **Note: Every time your results open in a new worksheet, name that worksheet so you and I both know what's what.** 1. Analyzing Location. The variable Location is coded in the following way: 1 = City, 2 = Town, 3 Suburb, and 4 = Rural a. Create a frequency graph (either histogram or bar graph-you decide which is more appropriate) for the variable Location. b. What is the best measure to use to understand the central tendency of Location? Why? (hint: think about which measure of central tendency works best for the type of data you have here) c. Are there other measures of central tendency that you could use for this variable? Why or why not? d. Use Excel to determine the most typical location of the colleges/universities studied. Report it here and show your Excel results.
