3 Objectives: To understand different types of Hydraulic Cylinders To become familiar with techniques used in measuring cylinder speed, and regenerative circuit Laboratory Exercise # 3 Hydraulic Cylinder Introduction Approximately 85% of fluid power circuits use some form of cylinder to do the work. Normally electrical energy compresses air or pumps hydraulic fluid through pipes and valves, a cylinder converts it into thrust to perform useful work. Procedure: 1. Notice the following information of the hydraulic cylinder you choose: Make, bore, stroke, model, and normal operating pressure. 663 words MEIK 2. Connect a hydraulic cylinder, flow meter, hoses and pressure gauges as shown below. 3. Time the stroke of the hydraulic cylinder while it is extending in order to calculate the velocity. Record the pressure at the inlet and outlet of the cylinder and flow rate. Now use the flow rate data and cross-sectional area (bore) of the cylinder to determine what the theoretical speed should be. Compare the speed of piston you measured to the calculated value. Repeat the same experiment for 3 times and use average value for comparison. 4. Time the stroke of the hydraulic cylinder while retracting. Assuming you have measured the time accurately (Take average of 3) calculate the rod diameter. Measure the rod diameter and compare the result. 5. Observing the above difference in retraction and extension speed difference, what can
