In Drosophila melanogaster, the eyes are normally round in shape, however, a mutant called "bar" results in flies with very narrow eyes. Flies heterozygous for the wt and bar alleles have eyes that are somewhat heart-shaped, a condition referred to as, "Notch," as shown in the figure below: Head- Eye wt "Notch" 0 bar (mutant) In a cross between a wt female and a bar-eyed male, the F₁ females had Notch-shaped eyes while the males had round eyes. In the reciprocal cross between a bar-eyed female and a wt (round) male, the F₁ females had the Notch phenotype while the males had the bar phenotype. a. What form(s) of inheritance are being observed in these crosses (show genotypes of P and F₁ generations)? b. What are the expected phenotypic ratios if you were to perform F₁ self-crosses from each of the initial reciprocal crosses (i.e. do NOT mix F₁ parents between the two reciprocal crosses to generate the F2; only perform F₁ self-crosses within each reciprocal line).
