A sample of nitrogen gas at 25°C is confined to a cylinder fitted with a piston with an initial volume of 0.1 m The nitrogen in the cylinder is at a pressure of 150 kPa. The piston is forced to move, compressing the nitrogen until the pressure is 1 MPa and the temperature is 150°C. During the com- pression process heat is transferred from the nitrogen and the work done on the nitrogen is 20kJ. Assume the specific heat capacity of the nitrogen is 742.3 J.kg-K-- or use the standard value for a diatomic gas. (a) Calculate the change in the internal energy of the nitrogen. (b) Determine the amount of heat that was removed from the gas.
