MGMT Mobile Company (MMC) offers mobile services to users on a
monthly subscription basis. Special discounts are given to
customers for frequently using their pre-or post-paid mobile
service. Customers can also sign up online or visit one of ten
outlets stationed at various locations around the country.
Customers can opt to receive their bills either through the post or
online but all payments are due by the 21st of each month. An 18.5%
mobile tax is applied to the cost of all services. All
transactions, customer calls, and other data are captured in a
database, where specific data can be extracted for decision making.
As a new employee of a team in the IS Department of this
corporation, your manager wants you to produce some reports for him
to review for the next quarter, such as which types of customers
should be targeted for special offers and how much money is
received for taxes.
REQUIRED
Since you are new to the job, your senior manager wants your
team (located across the Caribbean and the world!!) to analyse the
report to determine what information can be obtained from it on
mobile phone prices.
(a) Create a table (format shown below) with all of
the countries in the report and identify data for post-paid plans
(monthly fee/minute), post-paid plans
($/min), OR Prepaid plan ($/min)
Country
Post-paid plans (monthly fee/minute)
Post-paid plans ($/min)
Prepaid plan ($/min)
(b) For ONE country of your choice (per
person, no two persons can choose the same country), from
the table you have compiled, use the Internet to try to confirm or
challenge any of these rates. Be sure to include your source
(website) and identify the information you are sharing.
3. You are provided with the following table of
country rates in US$ per month:
(a) How does the cost of the overall
package (including voice, text and/or data) in US$ compare to your
own mobile plan or choose a local mobile plan if you do not own a
mobile phone?
Forum 3: Summarise the information shared
thus far
(a) Request further information (reports) from two
of your colleagues and discuss two findings about your analysis.
Please state your sources.
Forum 4: Questioning and responding
(a) Ask two suitable questions to two other members
(general or vague questions will not be accepted).
(b) Respond to two questions from two other
members (general or vague responses will not be accepted).
