Chapter 4: Chapter 4 focuses on writing in Nursing. The American
Association Colleges of Nurses identifies writing as a
pre-requisition skill for nursing practices. It is a crucial
component that those who practices in the medical field can provide
clear and effective written, verbal, and nonverbal communication
using current and emerging technology. The ability to write and
communicate effectively is an important aspect for medical
professionals to discourse and disseminate knowledge within the
nursing community. To meet the growing need for patient care,
nurses have become increasingly responsible for providing care
under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which resulted in the need to
increase work collaboratively with the different disciplinary teams
(physicians, therapists, etc.) in which nurses demonstrate
efficient communication to provide and assist in quality patient
care. Medical professionals becomes writers and communicators who
develops knowledge and their professional identify through writing
and communicating practices stimulations. Through repetitive
encounters, and feedback; medical professionals advance their
skills in writing and communicating to become better communicators
and advocators who can deliver quality patient care for those who
are under their supervision. It is important that medical
professionals develop these skills because it ensures clear and
accurate information is transmitted and transferred to their
colleagues who also part take in providing care for the same
patient. Medical professionals work in multidisciplinary and
collaborates to contributes to the health outcome of an individual,
therefore the slightest grammatical error can alter the health
outcome of a patient. Chapter 5: Often, nurses does not see writing
a central skill needed in their career, their focus is towards
their clinical roles. Yet, nurses rely on and contributes to a wide
range of written resources such as nurses’ notes, patients’ charts,
insurance form, etc. Throughout the chapter, the author uses the
word “genre” to refer to groups of texts that share common purposes
and textual features. The Tachino theory of intermediary genre
focuses on genres that exist in the in between, this theory
explains that “a genre can be used to connect and mobilizes two
otherwise unconnected genres to make uptake possible.”
(Madson.2021) Negotiating Importance refers to the ability in which
medical professionals can make strategic choices about which
condition they should track on the patient. If a patient is to
receive care for multiple reasoning, medical professionals may
become overwhelmed in which medical condition should become the
priority. Therefore, medical notes from other disciplinary may
become crucial to the decision they make when observing a patient’s
condition Communicating Importance comes after which condition
should be focuses in their care plan, diagnosing the condition and

writing can become the most powerful tool at your disposal. Writing
at a glance are just words composed on a piece of paper or
technology device, yet it can be the reason that changes the world
or changes the outcome of a person health. Composed with the right
words and right readers, a piece of writing can become the
interpretation towards the causation of an event. Graduate levels
differ from writing from the bachelors’ levels because it tends to
be written in a more professional form that follows general
guidelines. Writing at a graduate level requires writer to develop
skills and discipline in following forms and rules on how a piece
of writing should be composed. Graduate level writing is often
associated with professionals that will used the writing as a
template to develop an objective causation, in a medical viewpoint,
it may be the reason why a patient receives the treatment plan they
do. The book suggests writing centers at schools could support
writing in the health profession by “embedding or semi-embedding”
writing specialist in specific course to improve students’
perceptions. To become a professional writer, being able to see the
“bigger picture” is crucial as it will become a guidance into the
