When starting the task, examine the pdf files with data.
And print them out. Connect the points of the same potential in the
equipotential line. To do this, draw the best-fit line that may go
close, but not necessarily through, each data point. The resultant
line should be thin, smooth, and without kinks. (Do not just
connect the points with the straight lines and do not use a
ruler). After drawing all equipotential limes, draw the
electric field lines,
Follow the instructions:
1. The equipotential lines do not touch or cross; the
surface of the electrode is also an
equipotential line;
2. The electric field lines are perpendicular to
the equipotential lines;
3. The electric field lines start on positive and end on
negative charges;
4. The electric field lines do not touch or
cross;
5. The electric field lines are closer where the field
is stronger, and further apart where it is
weaker;
6. The electric field lines are equidistant where the
electric field is uniform.
Consult a textbook if needed, especially for the case of
the fringe field of two parallel plates
and the field of a dipole.
Put an arrow at the appropriate end of the electric
field line.
Before drawing the electric field lines for the field
distorted by a conducting ring mark the
polarization charges that are due to the displacement of
the free electrons in the ring, then
draw the electric field lines adhering to the rules
described above.
- For the field due to the two parallel plates,
calculate the magnitude of the electric field at
two locations: inside and outside the two
plates.
- To do this, calculate the voltage
difference
between two equipotential lines, ΔV, and measure the
distance between them, d, then
calculate the magnitude of the electric
field:
