II. PROBLEM 2. ELECTRIC FIELD IN MATTER. Consider two cocentric spherical shells of radii Rį and R2, carrying opposite charges of the same magnitude, Q and -Q. The space between them is filled with the dielectric with electric susceptibility Xe. Find the voltage between the spheres. What is the surface charge (a) on the inner surface of the material, (b) on the outer surface? What is the total charge integrated over the surface? Hints: 1. Use the definition of electric displacement and find the permittivity of the material. 2. Find electric displacement using the Gauss' law in appropriate form. 3. Then, using the definition of electric displacement again, find electric field and polar- ization of the material. 4. Finally, find the surface charge using formula o = P.ñ, and integrate it over each surface.
