Alan and Loretta have been married for 25 years. They have two
children, aged 22 and 16, and live in a large home just west of
Toronto. Last month, they told their children that they were
separating. Because of the high cost of rent, Alan decided to move
into the spare bedroom of the matrimonial home. He made this move
on January 28th, 2022. Before getting married, Alan and Loretta
signed an agreement whereby if they divorced:
- Loretta would keep the home
- Alan would keep his company pension and RSPs
- They would split the remainder to ensure an equitable
distribution of assets
- Loretta would gain sole custody of the children, and Alan would
be able to visit with them once every 2 weeks
