An object is at rest on a slope which makes an angle of 43.0°
above the horizontal. It is prevented
from slipping by a static frictional force of 365 N.
(a) Draw the figure (with x-axis parallel to the slope and y-axis
perpendicular to the slope) and
show the vectors representing the weight of the object, normal
force on the object, the
frictional force from the slope, and the component of the weight
along the slope.
(b) Write the equation of the net force on the object in the
x-direction. Is the net force on the
object in the x-direction zero? Explain your answer.
(c) Using the equation from part b, determine the magnitude of the
weight and the mass of the
object.
(d) Write the equation of the net force on the object in the
y-direction. Is the net force on the
object in the y-direction zero? Explain your answer.
(e) Using the equation from part d, determine the normal force
acting on the object.
