14. In solar studies an often-used 'hybrid' density model is n [108cm-31 15.45 3.16 1 0.0033 + + + R16 R6 R4 (1) R2 where R is the heliocentric height in solar radius (R.). Calculate the electron densities at dis- tances of 1 R. and 10 R. above the solar surface using this model. Compare the densities and the corresponding frequencies to those you got from question 13.

13. In IP space an often-used approximation for atmospheric electron density, ne, scales as ne = no/Ra, where no (cm-3) is the plasma density near Earth at 1 AU, and Rd (in AU) is the distance from the Sun. The value of no ranges from ~5 cm-3 around solar minimum to ten times this value at solar maximum. Calculate the electron densities at distances of 1 R. and 10 R. above the solar surface using this model, at the times of solar minimum and maximum. What plasma frequencies do they correspond to?
