1. A beam is to be made by gluing and screwing-together four wooden planks of length 2 m, thickness 20 mm and width 120 mm. (a) Determine the second moment of area I for the three configurations shown in cross- section in the figure below. (b) Calculate the mid-span deflection of each of the beams when they are simply supported at their ends and loaded at mid-span with a force F of 100 N.
