Assume a boundary layer over a smooth, flat plate is laminar at first and then becomes turbulent at a critical Reynolds number 5 x 105. If we have a plate 3.5 m long and 2 m wide and if air at 20°C and normal atmospheric pressure, flows past this plate with a velocity of 30 m/s, calculate a) The average resistance coefficient, Cf for the plate. b) The total shearing resistance of one side of the plate. c) The resistance due to the laminar part of the boundary layer. d) The resistance due to the turbulent part of the boundary layer. = 1.2 kg/m3, Vair = 1.49 x 10-5 m2/s ) (ραϊr )
