Discussion Topic "I'm sorry sir," replied Justin, the restaurant server. The cooks had just informed him that the kitchen had run out of the two items. "We've been very busy tonight," he continued, apologetically. "Well, here's the problem," replied the guest. "We only came here because we saw your ad for the Friday night special: prime rib, salad, and baked potato, all for one special price. But now that we're here--.--and it's only at 8 o'clock----you say you don't have any left? Just what kind of scam are you guys running here?" 1. Do you think the manager of this restaurant was actually trying to "scam" customers? 2. What do you think will be the long-term impact on this customer of the restaurant's failure to forecast its sales volume properly? 3. Do you think if a pre-meal meeting was done, the situation could have been avoided? Why or why not? 4. As a server, why is it important to know how an item was prepared? In addition to satisfying the guests culinary desires, can you think of another reason why preparation might be important for some guests?
