Problem 1. Define f:R → R by f(x) = [x+ x2 and note x* = 0 is a global minimizer of f. Explicitly give the update formula for New- ton's method, if it were applied to minimize f. Prove if the initial iterate x1 is nonzero, then {xk} generated by Newton's method here does not converge.
