The earliest theories on aging came from the psychosocial, biological, and nursing disciplines. Examine all of the theories listed in Chapter 3: Theories of Aging located in Tables 3-1, 3-2, & 3-3 on pages 42, 43, 55, and 57 of your textbook. Choose one theory from these tables and explain how the theory you chose applies to the aging adult in 150 words or more for the theory you choose supporting your answers with at least 2 nursing peer reviewed journal articles no older than five years. Using the knowledge that you gained from the aging theory that you chose, answer the following questions: 1) How can the nurse facilitate best practices for managing chronic illnesses with the elderly? 2) How can the nurse help people to use their genetic makeup to prevent co-morbidities? and 3) How can the nurse maximize individuals' strengths relative to maintaining independence?
