Copy of The Carolina Abcedarian Project (ABC) was an experimental study carried out to determine whether early educational daycare can improve the academic success of children from socioeconomically disadvantaged familes. The experimental group attended educationally oriented daycare from age three months until they olored public school at age five. At age five, the eduational daycare (experimental group and the control group were each divided into two subgroups, one of which received bi-weekly home visits by an educational specialist who worked with the family to supplement the child's public school education in order to help assure that the child was on track in school. The other subgroups received no supplementary education. Consistent with the findings of similar studies, the results showed that children from socioeconomically disadvantaged families who had attended educational daycare beginning at age 3 months outperformed the control group on IQ and measures of academic success at age 12 years. The IQ and measures of academic success administered at age 12 years did NOT differentiate between the children who had received the school-age intervention and those who did not receive these extra school-age services. Which of the following inferences can be made from these findings? O a. That the intellectual development of socioeconomically disadvantaged children can be enhanced by the provision of an educationally enriched environment beginning in infancy. O b. That infancy is a "critical period" for the receipt of interventions directed toward enhancing IQ and academic success Oc That intellectual ability is not influenced by the genes. da & O e a,b &c
