In the United States, patients generally have the right to choose their physician or provider. The American Hospital Association (AHA) created a Patient's Bill of Rights, which informs patients in hospitals about their rights. Several states have enacted statutes that reflect a patient's bill of rights. Additionally, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) provides a series of protections for consumers.
Discuss the rights that you have as a patient. Give an example of how someone you know has exercised those rights in a healthcare facility or a doctor's visit?
Describe what happened and how the facility or organization met its organizational responsibilities while facilitating the exercise of your rights.
