A 19 year old, well-developed, good-looking college student was
admitted to the student health center because of a severe sore
throat and fever. There was an ill-defined history of malaise
and fatigue of six weeks duration, and of a low-grade fever for two
weeks prior to admission. The student noted progressive
enlargement of cervical, axillary and inguinal lymph nodes in the
week prior to admission. Two days before admission, she
developed mild dysphagia and her urine had become dark in
color.
